Golf DSG

Asked by Rebecca Waugh

I am having problems with the DSG gearbox in the 2009 VW Golf I bought new. It's getting stuck in gears, and not changing. I have taken it to a Volkswagen dealer to be looked at a number of times, but they have said that 'it is normal', and it's the way I drive it. I have recently changed my driving style and it is still getting stuck in gears, both along the straight and going uphill. My father owns three Volkswagens with DSG gearboxes in his business, two of which he is also having problems with. I have heard numerous complaints by Volkswagen owners about the DSG. I have complained to Volkswagen Group Australia and am extremely disgusted with the service I have received from them. Volkswagen Australia has admitted to me that there are problems with the DSG, that they have been recalled in some countries, but not Australia. They are not helping and do not seem to know what to do. It has been clearly going on for a number of years but they are not doing anything. Any advice on what I can do would be appreciated.

You're a member of a large and growing club of disgruntled DSG owners. We have received lots of reports about DSG gearboxes malfunctioning, and we know VW has issued at least one service alert about oil contaminating the gearbox wiring and ECM, but it would appear that VW isn't the most responsive company when it comes to complaints from its customers. I can only suggest that you maintain the pressure on the dealer/company, and perhaps consider legal action.
