Holden Astra 2000: What is causing the engine to stall?

Asked by Anton

When the emission warning light on my 2000 Holden Astra comes on the engine stalls. If I then turn the ignition off and on again it is ok. I thought it was the fuel pump, so I put in a new one, but it hasn?t fixed the problem. What could it be?

It is likely to be an engine sensor misbehaving intermittently. Check the crank angle sensor and its connections, or take it to a mechanic and have him run a diagnostic check on it.
