Kia Sportage 2007: Idle/rev problem
Asked by Alison Cook
The engine in my 2007 Kia Sportage CRDi barely idles, won't rev and cuts out, and my dealer says it is because I have had a bad batch of diesel and the injectors are blocked. I have been quoted $3000-$3500 to clean the fuel system, but should it be at our cost or the fuel supplier's, or should we get a second opinion. We have been told it is not covered by warranty. The car has done 32,000 km.

25 Jan 2011Fuel companies have warranties that provide cover in situations where poor fuel causes problems, but before you can even think about approaching the fuel company you need to establish that your problems are a result of poor fuel. You need to be able to identify the outlet you bought the fuel from, produce a receipt of some sort that verifies the purchase and then some evidence that proves the fuel was the culprit. I would certainly get another opinion.
