Ask Smithy Xtra Transporter take-off

Asked by Bill

My 1998 VW Transporter 2.5-litre petrol sometimes hesitates on take off. I have changed the spark plugs, distributor cup and leads, rotor. My mechanic suggested the injectors could be dirty, so I added injector cleaner, but the problem still exists. It only happens when accelerating; it sometimes dies when idling, but starts right up again. Any ideas?

Check the PCV valve, it might need replacing. A faulty PCV valve can cause a problem like you are describing.
