Calais V6 humming noise

Asked by Michael

Since fitting Bridgestone Potenza RE002 tyres my Calais V6 has developed a humming noise in the rear when I get to about 80 km/h. The dealer says it is tyre noise, but Bridgestone claims they've never heard of these tyres giving road noise before. They then said to take the car to a Bridgestone dealer to check, which I did, and their dealer claimed it was not the tyres, that it was a bearing problem! But it only started after the tyres were put on. I've never known Holden not to do a job if they felt it was needed, so I can't see them saying it's not the bearings if it is. Can you suggest a solution?

An experienced mechanic should b able to pick the difference between tyre noise and a bearing rumble. I would have an independent mechanic drive the car and tell you what the noise it. That way you should be able to get it properly resolved.
