Delayed gears on VW Transporter

One of the things that sold me on the 2005 turbo-diesel auto VW Transporter I bought last year was the great engine and smooth auto. But about six months ago the gear changes in the lower gears became sharp and hard and changes in the higher gears were sometimes slow with a slight delay. My dealer's technician drove the van and noted the problem, but everything was normal when he connected it to the computer. I was then advised they should change the transmission fluid, which looked dirty and burnt. The oil is meant to be there for the life of the vehicle, but I agreed, hoping this would fix the problem. But $585 later I still have the same shift issues. I was wondering If this is a common problem with automatic T5 Transporters and if so could I claim under the extended warranty the van was sold with?

17 Jun 2010Despite the finding that all was well on the diagnostic check I would suggest the auto could be in need of a service. The computer, after all, can't assess the quality of the shifts. Changing the oil was a good first move, even though it hasn't proven to be the fix. As for the warranty you would have to read it to check what it covers and what it doesn't.
