Asked by Gary Leith,
About a week ago when my wife returned to her 2003 Mercedes-Benz SLK 200 in the afternoon it would not start. We thought perhaps it was a flat battery, so she the dealer's service number and they promptly arrived and made an attempt to start the car. As it would not turn over they then changed the battery, but it still wouldn't start. The car is now in their service section and they told us that the electronic computer board has been sent to Singapore for a special part. The car was last serviced in September 2010, at 25,000 km, and all the electrical system was checked. I understand from the dealer that a warranty period of 6 or 12 months applies, which they are trying to stall at present. So, where do we stand in your opinion if they invoice us for any of the work undertaken?

24 Feb 2011While the car was serviced only a few months ago, and the electrical system was supposedly checked during that service, I can't see that you have any claim against the dealer. You mention a warranty; perhaps you could read that and determine the provisions of that warranty so see if you could be covered that way.
