Ford Fiesta 2010: Filling with water

Asked by Maureen Atkinson

My husband and I are elderly and bought a new Ford Fiesta a few months ago thinking it would give us trouble free motoring, but it's been nothing but trouble. A couple of months ago the floor filled with water in a heavy downpour. The dealer's first attempt to fix it wasn't successful and it again filled with water the next time it rained. This time they virtually dismantled the interior looking for the leak, and in the process discovered a crack in the chassis. It's still with the dealer who has had it for almost four weeks now. I am now disheartened. I feel it's not a new car any more. What can I do?

The dealer is trying to fix the car for your, so you can only work with them to ensure a satisfactory outcome. The dealer has an obligation not only to repair the faults in the car, but also to return it to you in the same condition it was in when you handed it over to you. Before taking it back make sure you're happy with the state of the car as it's being handed back, and don't accept it if there is anything you are unhappy with. You could also have it inspected by an independent mechanic or engineers to confirm the work has been done to an acceptable standard.
