Powerless steering

Asked by Robyn Marsden

MY 2005 Holden Adventra V6 is a great vehicle, but the power steering is firm at slow speeds and when parking. It's much tighter then any other Holden vehicle, including the Crewman and the Rodeo, but Holden claims there is nothing it can do about it. I also have two bent alloy rims on this vehicle, even though it has not been off the road. I have heard of many damaged rims on Adventras, even when they have only been used on unsealed potholed roads, not off road. Holden claims it is abuse and refuses to accept warranty claims.

EVERY Adventra I've driven has had heavy steering, so much so I wouldn't buy one. The V6 is better than the V8, but it's still not good enough. I think that's what Holden is trying to tell you without giving the game away. It's hard to comment on the damaged wheels without seeing them and knowing what the car has been used for, whether it has hit kerbs or other things that could easily cause the damage. If you want more information, take the car to a wheel specialist for their opinion.
