Traps in lpg switch

Asked by Robert Naylor

PLEASE advise me whether I can convert my 2005 Holden Adventra SX6 to LPG and what effect this would have on my warranty.

THE feeling around the industry is it's not viable to convert the Alloytec V6 engine to LPG because it suffers excessive valve recession. It is suggested the cylinder heads need rebuilding after less than 50,000km when run on LPG and the cost of the rebuild is more than the saving you might make from the fuel. If you do fit LPG you will void the warranty on the engine and any part of the car that has to be modified to fit the system. Talk to the installer to clarify the cover he provides on the equipment and the work he does.
