Asked by Julian Schecter
I own a 2003 Honda Civic LX and over the years I've had to replace the oil and tyres. However, this year I had to get several things repaired such as the water pump, spark plugs, seals and gaskets, coolant, air filter, fuel filter, and crank sensor. The whole thing cost me a total of $452.97. I also checked on its current value and discovered that it was $1519. The car has a few dents and scratches and I am considering getting them repaired, but I am wondering if it is worth it. Is it worth getting my car repaired or am I just throwing money away? If it's the latter, am I better off getting a new car?

11 Dec 2015If you only had to spend $452 on repairs over the 12 years you've owned your car you've had a very good run out of it. You really need to decide if you're going to keep it or not. If you're going to keep it get the dents knocked out and tidy it up. If you're going to move it on don't bother. A dealer won't give you any more for it if it was undented than he would if it has a few bumps and scrapes. Given its age it's probably best to trade it in on a new car.
