LIKE the owner complaining about the speedo error in his brother's Subaru, my VW Jetta has a 10km/h error. VW also replied that 10 per cent is within Australian Design Rules, so bad luck. It would be interesting to do a survey on all new vehicles to ascertain whether a conspiracy exists? If so, it is certainly a sneaky way to reduce the speed limit.

26 Dec 2008I DON'T subscribe to the conspiracy theory, I believe it's a result of the conservative approach of car companies to making sure the speedos don't understate the actual speed and get owners into trouble with the police. There are many tolerances that accumulate in a car that can throw out things like speedo readings.
