I own a Commodore Calais 1990 V8 automatic. Between 1800-2000rpm the car starts to vibrate under load. It has had two torque converters, replaced universal joints, rotated tyres, renewed plug leads and replaced spark plugs. I have changed the phase on the tail shaft, replaced the temperature and pressure switches in the gearbox. A diagnostic computer showed the torque converter, lock-up clutch was switching on or off at those speeds. I have taken the car to a transmission specialist and car mechanics, with no luck. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The vibration has been in the car about four years, but is not getting any better or worse, just annoying as it happens at about 95-100km/h.

5 Dec 2003You've done just about everything possible and seemingly without finding the cause of the problem. The Commodore of that era is prone to driveshaft vibrations. I would suggest you have the driveshaft angles checked as that is often a source of problems like you describe. It is almost certainly a drive-line problem.
