I HAVE a 1982 Toyota Celica Liftback, which is nearing the 90,000km mark. It is a one-owner vehicle, in excellent mechanical condition and has no rust. I have been thinking of buying another vehicle and my friends say I would be better selling the Celica privately because I would get nothing as a trade-in. What price do you think I could expect selling privately or in a trade? Should I try to sell through a club to Celica enthusiasts? Also, is there a name for cars that reach this age and are they more valuable as they get older?

9 Feb 2007CARS are regarded as classic when they reach 25 years old, but that doesn't necessarily translate into a higher value. To find the nearest club contact your local motoring organisation. It would probably be worth $3000 as a trade-in, perhaps $4500 in a private sale.
