2015 Ford Mustang top speeds boosted | report

Ford is remaining annoyingly cagey with the outputs and performance of the new 2015 Mustang, despite making its public debut in Detroit this week.
Such omissions were expected at the Australia-bound Mustang’s simultaneous worldwide unveiling in December, but everyone expected the blanks to be filled at the big Motown show.
It now looks like we’ll have to wait until the Mustang’s 50th birthday bonanza in April to finally have a proper grasp on the new pony’s mettle, but Autoevolution has revealed new top speed figures in the interim.
Speaking to Mustang chief engineer Dave Pericak in Detroit , the drivetrain refinement led by the new model’s independent rear suspension has enabled engineers to loosen the electronic speed-limiter for both 3.7-litre V6 (available in the US) and 5.0-litre V8 engines, along with the new 2.3-litre EcoBoost four.
“The top speeds have been increased at every level. The V8 does 155 mph (249km/h), the V6 doing 121 mph (195km/h), and then the Ecoboost base doing 121 mph (195km/h). But the EcoBoost Track Pack will do 145 mph (233km/h).”
These represent marginal gains of 8 mph (13km/h) and 7 mph (11km/h) over the equivalent live-axle fifth-generation Mustang V6 and V8 models, but will help sate the performance-figure anxiety of Mustang fanatics around the globe.
These top speed gains of course mean little in a country like Australia with a maximum open-road speed limit of 130km/h, but could be handy if this year’s Northern Territory open limit trial proves successful.
The 2015 Mustang will go on sale stateside in the fourth quarter of this year, before its arrival on local soil in 2015.
