Audi Australia has released pricing and specification details for the all-new Q5 Sportback, with the coupe-style mid-size SUV set to enter showrooms next month with a diesel-powered SQ5 TDI performance flagship.
Compared to the second-generation Q5 wagon it’s based upon, the Q5 Sportback’s entry-level 40 TDI S Line ($77,000 plus on-road costs), mid-range 45 TFSI S Line ($86,300) and range-topping SQ5 TDI ($110,900) variants command $2100, $9700 and $6000 premiums over their respective equivalent versions.
The 40 TDI S Line is motivated by a 150kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, which helps it to sprint from a standstill to 100km/h in 7.6 seconds, while the 45 TFSI S Line uses a 183kW/370Nm turbo-petrol unit that enables it to hit triple digits in 6.3s.

A 12V mild-hybrid system is fitted to both the 40 TDI S Line and 45 TFSI S Line, while the SQ5 TDI goes a step further with not only a 48V set-up with an electric-powered compressor, but also a 251kW/700Nm 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6, for a zero-to-100km/h sprint time of 5.1s.
No matter the variant, the Q5 Sportback features a version of Audi’s signature quattro all-wheel-drive system, while the 40 TDI S Line and 45 TFSI S Line have a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and the SQ5 Sportback has an eight-speed torque-converter unit.
Standard equipment in the 40 TDI S Line includes a sports body kit, LED lights, 20-inch alloy wheels, auto-folding side mirrors with heating, a 10.1-inch touchscreen multimedia system, satellite navigation (with live traffic), wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto support, digital radio, a wireless smartphone charger, front sport seats, a black headliner and eight airbags.
Advanced driver-assist systems extend to autonomous emergency braking (with pedestrian detection), lane-keep and steering assist, driver attention assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, surround-view cameras, parking sensors, exit warning and tyre pressure monitoring.
The 45 TFSI S Line adds Matrix LED headlights, Nappa leather upholstery with diamond seat stitching, stainless-steel pedals, a sliding and reclining rear bench, and adaptive cruise control.
Meanwhile, the SQ5 TDI also gets unique adaptive sports suspension, exterior styling elements, 21-inch alloy wheels and a variable exhaust system, among other features.
The new BMW X4, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe and Porsche Macan rival is, of course, available with options packages, including the Comfort Package (40 TDI S Line) and Technik Package (40 TDI S Line and 45 TFSI S Line), but they’re yet to be detailed.
