2024 Toyota HiLux pricing and features confirmed: Mild-hybrid-style 'V-Active' tech lands along with other spec changes for Isuzu D-Max, Ford Ranger rival
Toyota Australia has confirmed pricing and a new name for its 48-volt-equipped variants of the HiLux ute set to go on sale in March.
The Toyota HiLux with 'V-Active Technology' will be offered in five grades in the HiLux range, starting from $54,130, before on-roads, for an SR double-cab chassis.
Pricing for the 48V-equipped V-Active version of the SR is up $1025 over the standard drivetrain version of the model, which remains available without Toyota's V-Active tech.
SR5 and Rogue variants now come standard with V-Active, though pricing increases are smaller for these grades. Pricing and changes are available in a table at the end of this story.
Toyota has also confirmed V-Active variants will come with the brand’s 'Multi-Terrain Select' off-road system (MTS) which offers Dirt, Sand, Mud, Deep Snow and Auto modes in high-range and Sand, Mud, Auto and Rock modes in low-range to optimise traction while off-roading.
To offset price increases somewhat, SR V-Active variants gain dual-zone automatic climate control, auto up-down windows, and smart entry and start over non V-Active models, while SR5 and Rogue variants gain a wireless charger and two rear USB-C charging ports.
Toyota claims the V-Active’s 48-volt assist system “provides an improvement of up to approximately 10 per cent in fuel economy compared to variants equipped with the standard 2.8-litre turbo-diesel engine” thanks to “energy stored in the battery used to provide additional powertrain output”.
There are some visual changes, including fresh front-end styling with a new honeycomb grille and new bumpers for all but the Workmate, SR single-cab and petrol grades, while the rear of the WorkMate, SR, SR5 and GR Sport pick-ups adds a new gloss black read bumper. Rogue and SR5 variants also add rejigged design elements.
In terms of new gear, all pick-up grades get a tailgate damper for a softer opening and closing, while automatic SR double-cabs add front and rear parking sensors. Wireless charging can now be found in SR5 double-cab auto, as well as Rogue and GR Sport.
