2025 Nissan Patrol Y63 engine detailed: Twin-turbo V6 confirmed for next-gen 4WD via new Infiniti QX80 teaser - is the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series outgunned?

The next-gen Nissan Patrol SUV’s engine specifications have been revealed, to some extent, as Infiniti has confirmed outputs and some details for the same drivetrain in the Patrol’s QX80 cousin.
The twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre petrol V6, or VR35DDT in Nissan-speak, is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and replaces the 5.8-litre V8 and seven-speed auto in the outgoing Patrol.
The new V6 comes from the same engine family as the twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 from the Nissan Z, and the 3.8-litre engine from the GT-R supercar.

While the V6 is more powerful and torquey than the outgoing V8, the most important comparison for prospective buyers will be its outputs up against the current Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series - and the Toyota might be a little outgunned.
The V8 makes 298kW and 560Nm in the current Patrol, while the incoming V6 makes 336kW and 698Nm in its first home, the Infiniti QX80 SUV.
If the Patrol arrives with similar figures, it’ll be plenty more powerful than the LandCruiser’s 227kW and similar in terms of torque to its 700Nm from the Toyota’s twin-turbo 3.3-litre diesel V6.
Infiniti says the new V6 also has “a 40 per cent wider gear ratio range” which it says allows for both a more responsive throttle and efficient highway-speed cruising.
Of course, the VR35DDT is set to have “improved acceleration and greater fuel economy” than the old V8.
Infiniti’s Senior Vice President of Global Product Strategy and Product Planning, Ivan Espinosa, is very confident in the QX80’s (and thus Patrol’s) drivetrain, saying it feels like you “always have power in reserve”.
"No need to worry about lag–it's always in the right gear, delivering a powerful driving experience," Espinosa.
The QX80 will be revealed on March 20, so expect to glean more information regarding the next Patrol from it when it’s unveiled.
