Spy images have surfaced of the 2019 BMW X5 SUV undergoing testing ahead of its market launch.
The next generation X5, codenamed G05, is expected to be lighter and stiffer than the current model thanks to BMW's Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform.
The CLAR platform will underpin all future BMW models from the 3 series and X3 upwards.
Exterior measurements of the upcoming X5 are expected to mirror the dimensions of its predecessor, meaning it shouldn't stray far from the current model's length (4880mm), width (1965mm) and height (1717mm). The wheelbase is also expected to remain at 2933mm, too.
The design will also be slightly tweaked. As you can see from the camouflaged prototype, the next X5 will feature a larger 'kidney grille' while the more muscular appearance seems to draw some inspiration from BMW's Concept X7.
However, there is expected to be a number of changes in the engine department with a selection of four, six, and eight-cylinders units, likely to be joined by a hybrid and plug-in hybrid option. Up to 522kW is said to be produced by the eight-cylinder engines.
CarsGuide contacted BMW Australia's product communications manager, Adam Davis, to comment on any details revolving around the next X5.
"It's too early for me to discuss any points around this model. As the time draws closer we will update media on timings, variants, etc ahead of the launch," Davis said.
The current X5 has been around since 2013 and the new model will be built in the same Spartanburg factory in North Carolina, USA.
