Four-tonne electric ute can do 0-60mph in 4.1 seconds! 2025 GMC Sierra Denali EV pickup revealed in the US as brand readies for Australian launch

2025 GMC Sierra Denali EV

GMC has introduced its second-edition GMC Sierra Denali EV pickup in the US ahead of the brand's local launch with the petrol-powered GMC Yukon Denali SUV next year.

For roughly A$150,000 for the extended-range variant, buyers in the US can step into the four-tonne beast that GMC said will rocket from 0-60mph (0-97km/h) in an absurd 4.1 seconds.

That’s less than half of the 8.6 seconds it takes for the 5.3-litre V8-powered GMC Yukon Denali SUV, which is a whole 1.6 tonnes lighter.

GMC said the supercar-like acceleration is thanks to its monster 205kWh liquid-cooled, lithium-ion battery pack, which is paired to twin electric motors that combine to deliver a power output of 554kW/1064Nm and 740km of EPA-rated driving range.

350kW DC fast-charging capacity is standard, meaning you can recharge roughly 160km worth of range in just 10 minutes, if you can find a charger of that capacity.

There is 4500kg of towing capacity, about 500kg less than its ICE equivalent, though still more than enough to pull a horse float, jet ski or a caravan.

Cargo space is plentiful with a large front "frunk" where the engine would typically go, in addition to the Sierra Denali EV's six-foot tub.

There’s also a playful standard feature called “crab walk” which enables all four wheels to move the vehicle diagonally.

Inside, buyers get a huge 16.8-inch portrait multimedia screen as well as an 11.0-inch digital driver’s display. The interior is cladded in premium leather and open-pore wood materials, making it less of a work vehicle and more of a carbon-friendly weekender.

It’s built on the same platform as the Chevrolet Silverado EV, which gets a bottom-spec work-trimmed variant, though it's invariably a hard-slog selling a work truck for $90,000 ($134,600).

It’s unlikely we will see the GMC Sierra Denali EV hit our shores any time soon, but with the brand's first car just around the corner and our growing love of big utes stranger things have happened.
