Hot fuzz! Fire-breathing BMW M5 Competition joins Victoria Police fleet

Evading the Victoria Police just got a whole lot harder

Evading the police just got a whole lot harder in Victoria, with two new BMW M5 Competitions joining its changing fleet of offical vehicles.

The M5 Competition is among BMW's most expensive performance vehicles, with the 460kW and 750Nm monster wearing a $229,900 price tag. That money, though, does buy you an AWD rocketship, with the M5 Competition capable of silencing the sprint to 100km/h in just 3.3 seconds, before pushing on to a top speed of 250km/h.

In happy news for taxpayers, though, it is understood the pair of performance sedans are currently on loan to the Victorian Police for a period of up to 12 months.

While BMW is yet to officially confirm the move, CarsGuide understands the pair of vehicles are currently under evaluation in Victoria, and will be used largely for light duties.

The pair of high-performance sedans will join the VW Passat 206 TSI Proline Wagon, with Victoria Police ordering 15 of the practical and potent Volkswagens to join its highway patrol and specialist division fleets. The 206 is the fastest Passat on offer in Australia, packing a potent 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that delivers 206kW and 350Nm.

Victoria Police has been contacted for comment.
