Images of Jaguar’s highly-anticipated concept car have been leaked online ahead of its official unveiling at Miami Art Week.
In line with the brand’s new motto of “copy nothing”, the concept model is indeed unlike anything the historic British automaker has ever produced.
Its long bonnet, extended wheelbase, sleek roofline and vibrant pink and blue paint fervently usher in a new design language for the brand – one that clearly isn’t bound by convention.
Most eye-catching is the lack of a rear windscreen, with Jaguar appearing to have taken a leaf out of the Polestar 4’s book. Instead there are rear-view cameras that sit under gold-plated patches behind the front wheels.
Then there is the vented exhaust-fan-like pattern on the front and rear ends of the car, both of which sit between slim LED light strips.
Despite the front vent (or grille) being flush with the car – as is standard on EVs – the same pattern at the rear appears to genuinely serve the purpose of air exhaustion evidenced by its recessed grooves.
The car’s A-pillars are effectively non-existent, with the glasshouse wrapping around the vehicle to conceal an ultra-minimalistic cabin.
Inside there’s effectively nothing but a few metallic trims and an oval-shaped steering wheel, though it will require a few more features – i.e. a speedometer – before it hits road-legal guise.
A Jaguar spokesperson didn’t confirm to The Guardian how much the leaked images will resemble the concept version set to be revealed in Miami on Tuesday, December 3 at 12pm AEST, but did confirm the colours were accurate.
“For the design vision, we have chosen Miami pink and London blue. Miami pink celebrates the vibrancy of the city while London blue, a modern take on the opalescent silver blue of the E-Type, is a nod to Jaguar’s British heritage,” the spokesperson said.
We do know that Jaguar is planning on launching its four-door electric GT as the first of its three-car lineup scheduled to arrive from 2026.
Leaked images of the four-door version road testing have already shown some similarities to the concept version, such as the long wheelbase, bonnet and sleek roofline. We expect even more design cues to be borrowed from the concept version once the camouflage comes off.
The release of leaked images follows Jaguar’s somewhat controversial rebranding campaign, which drew criticism from many pundits over concerns it departed too strongly from the brand’s historic British identity.
Jaguar is owned by Jaguar Land Rover, a wholly-owned subsidiary of India’s Tata Group.
Earlier this year Jaguar announced that it was investing £18b ($35.2b) to axe all of its petrol vehicles and completely reconfigure it's lineup to all-electric by 2026.
