Mitsubishi has expanded its Triton range for MY24.5, reinstating the GLX-R badge as a compelling mid-range option.
The GLX-R will arrive at Mitsubishi dealerships across the country from October, with pricing at $56,740, before on-road costs, slotting it between the GLX+ ($53,290) and GLS ($59,090) variants.
It will distinguish itself from the rest of the range with unique design features including black 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in highway terrain tyres, a black sports bar and black door trims.

It shares a leather-wrapped steering wheel and carpet flooring with the higher-grade GLS and GSR variants as well as Mitsubishi’s 'Super Select II' four-wheel drive system, which brings full-time 4WD and hill descent control.
Mitsubishi’s brand new dual-strut tailgate system will also debut on the GLX-R before being added to the GLS and GSR variants in the coming weeks.
The GLX-R’s powertrain goes unchanged from the rest of the range, its 2.4-litre four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine producing maximum outputs of 150kW/470Nm. Power is transmitted to all-four wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
As standard, the GLX-R gets black fabric upholstery with silver stitching, a 9.0-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, a four-speaker sound system, automatic halogen headlights with an auto high beam function, rain-sensing wipers and a locking rear differential.
However, if you want features like LED headlights, heated and electronically-adjustable front seating, dual-zone climate control, leather-appointed seats, a six-speaker sound system and Mitsubishi’s smart key technology, you’ll have to opt for the higher-grade GLS or GSR variants.
Mitsubishi’s driver assistance package comes standard across the range. It includes safety features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision mitigation, blind-spot monitoring, pedestrian and cyclist detection, a surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring.
