Toyota Kluger 2020 teased

Toyota has teased the fourth-generation Kluger large SUV in an unusual way ahead of its international debut at the New York motor show next week.

Likely to enter Australian showrooms in early 2020, the new Kluger has been previewed by an art installation that features 200 3D printouts suspended in the air on strings to tease its silhouette.

Augmented reality (AR) artist Michael Murphy took two months to create the project that required each piece to be hand-painted to match a rendering of the fresh Kluger.

“The art installation captures the all-new (Kluger’s) powerful stance with a modern, sophisticated attitude,” the Japanese company said in a press release.

While Toyota is promising that the Kluger will have “new sculpted design elements that will make (it) stand out in the marketplace”, it has not confirmed any other details regarding the incoming seven-seater.

The Kluger is expected to move to the brand’s TNGA monocoque platform that underpins the new-generation C-HR small SUV, Corolla small car, Camry mid-size car and RAV4 mid-size SUV, among others.

It is expected that the Kluger will continue to offer the option of front- or all-wheel drive, while its 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine could be joined by a petrol-electric parallel hybrid powertrain.

The new model’s reveal will be livestreamed from 11.10pm (AEST) on Tuesday, April 17. In the lead up to the New York motor show, video of the art installation will be projected onto several buildings in the Big Apple.
