Toyota Supra 2020 sells out - again

Twenty-eight minutes. That's all it took for 100 Toyota Supras to sell-out today as the second allocation of the iconic Japanese coupe hit the market today.

In order to keep supply and demand in check Toyota Australia is offering the initial batch of locally bound Supras in three batches via online sales. The first lot of 150 cars sold out in just 22 minutes on June 20.

A third batch of 2020 models, which the Toyota website says will be "approximately 100 cars", is set to go on sale on September 25. Toyota Australia was only able to secure roughly 300 examples of the new coupe amid high demand globally.

In an effort to ensure only genuine buyers get their hands on the first run of Supras, Toyota Australia has set up the online portal that requires interested parties to register and provide their driver’s licence details which must then match the registered owner of the car.

Punters will have one last chance to secure a brand-new Toyota Supra when the final round of allocation opens again on September 25.

Customers are required to put down a refundable $1000 "reservation fee" initially before a Toyota representative confirms their order and takes a further $4000 deposit.

Toyota is offering two trim lines for Supra - GT and GTS - with the former starting at $84,900 and the latter priced from $94,900.

Both are powered by the same BMW-built 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, producing 250kW of power and 500Nm of torque, paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Standard equipment on the GT includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a mechanical limited-slip differential, adaptive dampers, LED headlights, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone climate control and wireless smartphone charging pad.

For the extra money the GTS adds 19-inch rims, a head-up display, bigger brakes and a 12-speaker JBL sound system. You can also add Alcantara trim for an addition $2500 but the other big ticket option, 'Nurburg Matte Grey' paint, has sold out.
