Volkswagen Golf GTI 2019 priced at $47,990 drive-away

Volkswagen Australia has introduced revised drive-away pricing for the 2019 model year Golf GTI.

Until March 31, 2019 the hot hatch's sticker has been set at $47,990 drive away - a saving of over $3,000 and only $1,800 above the GTI’s recommended retail price (RRP). 

Newly updated to feature the former GTI Performance’s 180kW/370Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and front limited-slip diff combination, as well as the Golf R’s brakes and a standard seven-speed dual-clutch auto, the 2019 GTI is the quickest standard Golf GTI yet.

Hot hatch rivals include the Ford Focus ST, Hyundai i30 N, Honda Civic Type R and Peugeot 308 GTi. 

The GTI’s 2.0-litre turbo four produces 180kW/370Nm and is claimed to use 6.5L/100km of premium unleaded.

For the 2019 model year, Volkswagen Australia made the formerly optional 'Driver Assist' package standard, gifting the car adaptive cruise control with stop/start functionality, lane keep assist with adaptive lane guidance, traffic jam assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, automatic high beam lighting and automatic parallel and perpendicular parking as standard equipment.

Volkswagen Australia also added the 'Active Info Display' digital driver’s screen and auto-folding mirrors to the standard equipment list.

Other standard equipment highlights for the 2019 Golf GTI include AEB, 18-inch alloy wheels with adaptive dampers, seven airbags, dual-zone climate control, an 8.0-inch media screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation, keyless entry and start plus LED headlights and tail-lights. 

Two option packages are available for those customers wanting more equipment. The $2300 'Sound and Style' package includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a larger 9.2-inch media screen and a 400W Dynaudio sound system while the $3900 'Luxury Package' includes leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 10-way electric driver’s seat with memory and a panoramic glass sunroof.
