Traps in lpg switch

Answered by CarsGuide 31 Aug 2006

THE feeling around the industry is it's not viable to convert the Alloytec V6 engine to LPG because it suffers excessive valve recession. It is suggested the cylinder heads need rebuilding after less than 50,000km when run on LPG and the cost of the rebuild is more than the saving you might make from the fuel. If you do fit LPG you will void the warranty on the engine and any part of the car that has to be modified to fit the system. Talk to the installer to clarify the cover he provides on the equipment and the work he does.

I want to gas up

Answered by CarsGuide 11 Aug 2005

YOU can contact both companies through their customer assistance hot lines, but you've probably already registered your interest with this letter. Ford has told us there are no plans to have an LPG option on the Territory, but we have heard Holden is working on one for its V6 engine. Having spent some time in the E-Gas Falcon recently, I have to say I'm surprised at its slow sales. I couldn't fault the way it drove and the savings at the pump suggest you'd be in the black after a year.
