The Goodguys PPG 2017 Street Machine Of The Year has been won by an eye-searing 1969 Chevy Camaro known as "Inferno". The mega-horsepower machine comes from The Roadster Shop, who also built cars that took out the prestigious award in 2009 and 2011.

Known for building some of America’s best custom cars, The Roadster Shop was commissioned by Inferno's owners, John & Nicki Wilkus, to build the wildest most modern interpretation of a 1969 Chevy Camaro ever seen.

Almost every single part of the car has been changed, with all the mechanicals upgraded to modern specifications with a new-generation direct-injection "LT1" V8 tuned up to make 680hp, while the body and interior fitment could shame a Rolls-Royce.

It isn't just a pretty face, though, having set the second-fastest time (even against proper race cars!) in a motorkhana showdown that forms part of the judging.

Iain Kelly is the beating heart behind The Creators Online, which showcases people who build "cool stuff".
