Subaru Liberty 2008 FAQs

Check out real-world situations relating to the Subaru Liberty 2008 here, particularly what our experts have to say about them.

  • Removable roof rails for Liberty wagon

We asked Subaru and the short answer is no. They told us that the roof cross bars between the Liberty and the Outback are different, as are the way they mount to the roof. Your Outback has a rail system, similar to current Outback and Forester, whereas the Liberty screws into the roof. With two different attachment systems, they cannot be interchanged.

  • Subaru service cost

Subaru spokesman David Rowley replies: "If the customer can supply the details of their car and the particular service, we would like to investigate on their behalf. Under Subaru's capped price service program, the cost of each service is transparent and clearly spelled out on our website, and can be checked at the time of booking, vehicle drop-off or pick-up. Speedometers on all new vehicles sold in Australia, including on all Subarus, have to meet Australian Design Rules. However, the speedometer reading is not directly linked to the odometer reading and therefore won't generate any variances."

  • Best replacement for a Liberty Wagon?

With 2000 kg towing capacity the Discovery Sport has the towing capacity you want, it's more than the CX-5, and it's not limited to 80 km/h like the Subaru is. That's a big plus. The only criticisms we've heard about are some niggling interior fit and finish issues, and one or two electrical gremlins. The Land Rover also has more ground clearance than the CX-5 and a traction control system better set up for actual off-road work.
