Asked by Karen Dixon
My parents own a 2001 Holden Barina and I own a 2006 Ford Focus. When I asked my parents' Holden dealer which fuel they should use I was told they could use E10. The only thing they said was that the emission light on the dash might come on after a while of running on E10, and that if that happens they should take it to them and they will change the code for it. I also rang our Ford dealer and asked the same question; they said we couldn't, and that we should use the higher premium unleaded. Are they correct?

29 Apr 2010The Barina will run happily on E10 and I doubt the dealer's advice about the "emission light". Ford, on the other hand, recommends you use the higher octane rating premium fuel, hence the advice not to use E10. Your Focus will run on E10, probably without any trouble, but it will run better on premium unleaded.
