    Why do manufacturers put indicator lights 'inside' the headlamp cluster?

    What is it with so many new cars being designed with indicator lights on the inside of the headlight?

    To name a few, just in dual cabs, the Isuzu D-Max, Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, and many others.

    I've noticed more and more, especially when approaching a roundabout, if you are moving at the same speed as a car coming towards you their indicator is noticeable, as soon as the two cars start to turn, the indicator disappears from view for quite a number of seconds, even more so when it's dark and the headlights are on. The mirror lights are also absent, so you need to be extra careful and watch the speed and angle of the wheels to judge if they are in fact turning.

    I have driven vehicles with these lights at night and almost expect to be cut off at a roundabout. I have never had an issue when the indicator is on the outside of the headlight.

    It is extremely dangerous and I cannot believe these designs are allowed on Australian roads.

    The ADR requires carmakers to have a side indicator so there is always a visible turn signal light, so you should be able to see that even if you can’t see the front light.
