2022 GWM Ute draws even closer to Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton! Increased price but same features for Great Wall Cannon

For the fifth time since its release in late 2020, Great Wall Motors (GWM) Australia has upped the cost of the GWM Ute dual-cab pick-up.

This time around, 4x4 variants of the Toyota HiLux, Ford Ranger, Isuzu D-Max and Mitsubishi Triton rival have become $1000 dearer, with the entry-level Cannon jumping to $37,990 drive-away.

For reference, equivalent versions of the HiLux, Ranger, D-Max and Triton start $42,795, $40,790, $42,900 and $37,940 plus on-road costs.

The GWM Ute’s mid-range Cannon-L and flagship Cannon-X now cost $41,490 and $44,490 drive-away, respectively. Of note, the 4x2 version of the Cannon is unchanged, at $34,990.

A GWM Australia spokesperson told CarsGuide no changes have been made to the GWM Ute’s standard equipment, with “cost pressures along various parts of the supply chain” again prompting the tweaked pricing.

As reported, the GWM Ute uses a 120kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, which is paired to an eight-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or an on-demand four-wheel drive system with low range and a rear differential lock.

In the Cannon, 18-inch alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and ComfortTek artificial leather upholstery are among the included kit.

Safety-wise, advanced driver-assist systems extend to autonomous emergency braking (with pedestrian detection), lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and a reversing camera.

Meanwhile, the Cannon-L gains a sports bar, a tub liner, heated front seats (including driver power adjustment), climate control and surround-view cameras.

The Cannon-X also gets a 7.0-inch multifunction display, wireless smartphone charging, passenger power adjustment and leather upholstery.
