BMW X2 sDrive18i, xDrive20d pricing and spec confirmed
BMW has expanded its new X2 compact SUV family less than a month after its single-variant debut with a cheaper option and a flagship version.
The X2, which launched in Australia in March with a single sDrive20i variant, will in June add the front-drive sDrive18i and the all-wheel-drive xDrive20d diesel.
The two newcomers will be priced at $49,900 before on-road costs and $59,900 respectively to sandwich the current $55,900 sDrive20i.
The entry-level sDrive18i has a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine rated at 103kW/220Nm that drives the front wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Standard equipment will include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights with cornering lights and high-beam assist, LED foglights, automatic wipers, electric tailgate, folding rear seats with a 40:20:40 division, satellite navigation, real-time traffic information, digital radio with six speakers, and a 5.0-inch colour touchscreen.
The cabin will feature BMW’s “sensatec” vinyl upholstery, a leather sports steering wheel, 12-volt power sockets in the rear, and a storage compartment package.
Safety equipment is listed as including front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and cruise control with braking function.
BMW’s X2 xDrive20d has a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine rated at 140kW/400Nm mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The existing xDrive20i has a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The new diesel has a claimed fuel consumption of 5.1 litres per 100 kilometres and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 7.7 seconds, the same as the petrol model.
The xDrive20d will share the specification list with the sDrive20i launch version. Above the sDrive18i, it will have an M Sport package, 19-inch alloy wheels and M Sport suspension.
The cabin adds Alcantara cloth upholstery with yellow contrast stitching, sports seats, dark headliner, shadow-line trim, M leather steering wheel, automatic air conditioning and anti-dazzle rear-view mirror.
The X2 has a luggage capacity of 470 litres (seats up) and 1355L (seats folded down) compared with its X1 sibling that has 505-1550L.
BMW Australia boss Marc Werner said the additional two versions “presents a compelling proposition for the small SUV purchaser”.
