A new Mazda sedan has been spied testing in Europe.

The vehicle in question looks very similar to the China-market EZ-6 sedan in the spy photos shared by CarScoops.

It suggests the EZ-6 may be undergoing additional testing, tuning and validation ahead of its European market launch that is allegedly imminent.

The pictured sedan’s silhouette looks identical to the model revealed at the 2024 Beijing motor show, though it has different black wheels without aerodynamic covers and looks to be riding a little higher. We can also see the active rear spoiler in action.

The new EZ-6 is 4921mm long, 1890mm wide and rides on a 2900mm wheelbase, making it about 35mm longer than the existing Mazda 6 sedan and almost identical to the latest Toyota Camry

Mazda’s new EZ-6 is a platform share with joint venture partner Changan and it is not yet clear whether it will be built alongside China market cars, or in Mazda’s Japanese homeland.

Full details are yet to be confirmed but Mazda promised the electric model would bring 600km driving range and the plug-in hybrid model 1000km from both power sources combined.

We can look to the platform share Deepal SL03 for some info. In EV guise it gets an 80kWh battery pack for 705km driving range in the more lenient CLTC cycle.

There’s also an ‘EREV’ range-extender plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre petrol with a 192kW electric motor that draws current from a 28kWh battery pack for 200km EV-only range and around 1200km combined – again, in CLTC.

Mazda has trademarked the 6e nameplates in Europe, indicating the new electric models are likely for launch. It recently trademarked ‘CX-6e’ in the Union, suggesting the Arata concept may come to life as a CX-5-sized electric SUV.

Mazda Australia is keeping quiet on the EZ-6’s local prospects for now. It will certainly be made in left-hand-drive for Europe, but transferring to right-hand drive may prove more complex, increasing wait times.

Being one of Mazda’s largest global markets (and the only one to get CX-60, CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90) with incoming emissions standards means the brand will need Australian-market EVs, now the MX-30 has bowed out, so watch this space.
