Porsche not fazed by global EV slowdown: Hundreds of buyers line-up for new Macan despite not having seen it yet as BMW X3, Audi Q5 rival goes all electric
Speaking to Australian media at a sneak preview event for the 2025 Porsche Macan, representatives from the brand said sales of the new electric-only model are ahead of expectations, both globally and locally.
Porsche Australia communications director, Alexis Truscott said pre-orders were in the hundreds for the new electric model, despite buyers having yet to actually see the car in the metal.
“We can confirm that the MacanBEV has generated tremendous interest and has been well-received by our Australian customers.”
“Order intake is currently ahead of our initial expectations for the new all electric Macan. Given it’s still a number of months before launch and no one has driven or seen the car in the flesh, the enquiry is up on both variants.”
“As with any new Porsche model, once customers see the striking Porsche design DNA, we’d anticipate that orders will further increase again.”
The new electric-only Macan will initially arrive in high-grade 4 and Turbo variants. As a result, it takes an extreme price-hike over the outgoing model, which until the end of new orders in May of this year was available from $95,100 before on-road costs.
In contrast the new electric Macan starts from $133,100, although its base ‘4’ guise is actually cheaper than the equivalent outgoing petrol ‘4’ which started at $133,700 before on-roads.

A more fleshed-out range is expected to be introduced into the future, with the vehicles Director of Bodysystem, Stephan Lenschow telling Australian media that the new electric version is expected to be produced in the same volumes as the outgoing petrol car.
Who is buying it? According to Porsche Australia, “Close to 60 per cent of orders are currently repeat buyers, with the majority of those coming from the ICE Macan.”
“While our core enthusiast base will undoubtedly remain a significant portion of our customer demographic, we also expect to appeal to a broader audience interested in cutting-edge technology and the exhilarating driving experience synonymous with Porsche.”
This ‘driving experience’ is even a structural part of the new Macan, according to Lenschow, who added that there are significant changes under the skin on the new Macan in order to distinguish it from its Audi Q6 platform-mate.

“We had the opportunity to do platform changes” he said, “behind the second seat we are different from the Audi and this gives us the opportunity to put in a bigger power machine [electric motor] and the rear axle steering which is not available on the Audi.” He also noted there are significant steering hardware changes compared to the Q6 which should set the Macan apart for the driver.
Orders have now closed for the combustion car, although the brand says there are still a “limited number” of combustion vehicles still in dealer stock. It would not comment on whether it anticipated a significant gap between running out of existing stock and the new electric version hitting local dealerships, however did note that new orders placed now for the incoming car would only see delivery in February of 2025.
