Watch out, Toyota Kluger, Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe! 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace increases in price but adds new features with facelift

Volkswagen Australia has announced pricing and specification details for the facelifted Tiguan Allspace, with the updated seven-seat large SUV set to enter local showrooms in May.

The Toyota Kluger, Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe rival has three new grades, with the entry-level Life grade available with the familiar 110TSI and 132TSI engines, while the mid-range Elegance and flagship R-Line can be had with the popular 162TSI and fresh 147TDI units.

For reference, the 110TSI Life ($44,590 plus on-road costs) is motivated by a 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic and front-wheel drive.

The 132TSI Life ($48,590) upgrades to a 132kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and a 4Motion all-wheel drive system. The 162TSI Elegance ($56,990) and 162TSI R-Line ($60,190) use a 162kW/350Nm version of the same set-up.

Finally, the 147TDI Elegance ($58,490) and 147TDI R-Line ($61,690) have a 147kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine and the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic and 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

It’s worth noting the Tiguan Allspace’s starting price is now $3600 higher, although range-wide standard equipment has increased to include LED lights, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, digital radio and wireless smartphone charging.

Otherwise, features in the Life extend to dusk-sensing lights, rain-sensing wipers, 18-inch Kingston alloy wheels, power-folding side mirrors with heated, a hands-free power tailgate, an 8.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, voice and gesture control, three-zone climate control and cloth upholstery.

Advanced driver-assist systems span autonomous emergency braking (with pedestrian detection), lane-keep and steering assist, adaptive cruise control (with stop and go functionality), high-beam assist, driver attention alert, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, park assist, a reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors.

A Luxury Package is available for $5500, with it bundling in a panoramic sunroof, heated and cooled front seats (including driver power adjustment and memory functionality), and Vienna leather upholstery.

Over the Life, the Elegance adds adaptive suspension, Matrix LED headlights, 19-inch Auckland alloy wheels, rear privacy glass, a 9.2-inch touchscreen multimedia system, heated and cooled front seats, heated outboard rear seats and ambient lighting.

The R-Line ups the ante further with variable-ratio steering, a body kit, 20-inch Misano alloy wheels, a sports steering wheel (with capacitive buttons with haptic feedback), sports seats, stainless-steel pedals and a black headliner.

Both the Elegance and the R-Line can be optioned with the $2600 Sound and Vision Package, which features a head-up display, a Harman Kardon sound system and surround-view cameras. A panoramic sunroof is a standalone $2100 option.
