The 120i sits in the middle of the 1 Series range of hatches with its list price of $46,990.
Coming standard are a 6.5-inch display with sat nav, reversing camera, six-speaker stereo and digital radio and air conditioning. The 120i also comes standard with the 'Urban Line' package, which adds 17-inch alloy wheels in the double-spoke style, front and rear bumpers with matt finish air intakes, plus dual chrome tail pipes, while the cockpit gets leather upholstery and gloss black and pearl effect trim.
The 120i has a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder and an output of 135kW/270Nm. Transmission is a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic. BMW says you should see a fuel usage of 5.9L/100km over a combination of urban and open roads. Our own testing recorded 7.8L/100km measured at the petrol pump.
The 118i has the maximum five-star ANCAP rating awarded in 2011. Coming standard is AEB (city) with pedestrian detection and lane departure warning.
