The Hyundai Staria is the brand’s all-new people-mover, riding on the same basic underpinnings as the Santa Fe SUV. The Elite is the mid-grade trim level and is priced from $56,500 for the petrol-powered and $59,500 for the diesel option.

The Hyundai Staria is the brand’s all-new people-mover, riding on the same basic underpinnings as the Santa Fe SUV. The Elite is the mid-grade trim level and is priced from $56,500 for the petrol-powered and $59,500 for the diesel option.

The petrol engine is a 3.5-litre V6, making 200kW/331Nm, with an eight-speed automatic and front-wheel drive. The 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel makes 130kW/400Nm, also has an eight-speed auto, but features all-wheel drive

Fuel economy is rated at 10.5-litres per 100km for the petrol and 8.2L/100km for the diesel.

The list of standard equipment for the Elite is lengthy and includes, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights and tail-lights, keyless entry and ignition, power sliding doors, multi-angle parking cameras, tri-zone air-conditioning (covering all three rows), leather trim, a six-speaker stereo and an 10.2-inch touchscreen with in-built navigation but wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus a wireless smartphone charging pad.

Safety features include seven airbags, including curtain airbags that cover both the second and third row occupants, and Hyundai’s 'SmartSense' suite of active safety features that includes forward collision warning with autonomous emergency braking, blind spot avoidance, lane following assist, lane keeping assist, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance, rear occupant alert, safe exit warning, adaptive cruise control and 'Safe Exit Assist.'

While based on new SUV underpinnings the Staria is still shaped like a van and that allows for a very spacious and practical cabin. The Elite is fitted with eight seats - two individual seats in the first row and three-person benches in the second and third. The boot measures a sizeable 831-litres with the third row in use.

Hyundai offers its usual five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty and capped price servicing program across the Staria Elite line-up.
