The Maxx is the second tier in the 3 range, fitting between the 2.0-litre Neo and Touring. Starting at $22,890 for the manual and $24,890 for the auto, the Maxx is the single most popular model in the 3 range, taking up 42 per cent of sales. Pricing is the same whether you choose the hatch with 308 litres of boot space or the sedan with 408.
Starting from the Neo's strong base, the Maxx has 16-inch alloy wheels, cloth trim, reversing camera, rear parking sensors, cruise control, air-conditioning, blind spot monitoring, leather steering wheel, handbrake and gear selector, power folding mirrors and upgraded interior lighting.
Debuting on the Maxx is Mazda's MZD Connect touch screen media system. The 7.0-inch screen is affixed to the dash in the European style (ie looks detachable) with sat nav, DAB+ digital radio, six speakers, USB and Bluetooth.

Limited app integration is available but Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is not. MZD Connect can be controlled via the touchscreen (when the car is stopped) or on the move using the console-mounted rotary dial and shortcut buttons.
One of the 3's strong suits is safety - even the Neo has forward auto emergency braking (AEB), six airbags, ABS and stability control. With the arrival of MZD Connect, the Maxx adds a reversing camera as well as reverse cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring and reverse AEB.
