Good second-hand car for $20,000?

Answered by CarsGuide 15 Dec 2014

I'm doing the same thing with my mother-in-law. A new car will be best with great value and excellent warranties. The three cars she needs to drive are the Honda Jazz, Mazda2 and Volkswagen Polo. All three get The Tick so go for her personal favourite. I'd go for the Jazz.

Small reliable car options

The two new arrivals this year, the Mazda2 and Jazz, both get The Tick from me. The Jazz is better value in the basic car and the Mazda rival has a more substantial feel. Go for the Honda.

Replacing an aged Pulsar?

None of the above. It's the Volkswagen Polo, which recently had a significant price cut, that gets The Tick from me.

Honda Jazz is shuddering

Answered by CarsGuide 11 Apr 2014

Have you brought it to Honda's attention through one of its dealers? If so it should have been fixed a long time ago, but if you haven't taken back to a dealer there's no way it could have been fixed. Changing the transmission oil, using a Honda recommended oil, would have been the way to fix it. Yours could have gone beyond the stage that it could be fixed with an oil change, but I would still consult a dealer to check.

Problem transmission in Jazz

Answered by CarsGuide 22 Feb 2013

I would take it to a Honda dealer as the company has been replacing problem transmissions. At the very least have the gearbox oil changed. If you choose to do nothing it's likely to get worse, and you could end up replacing the transmission.

Honda Jazz excessive fuel consumption

Answered by CarsGuide 2 Nov 2012

Not specifically, but the people who told you that it might improve after 5000-6000 km are having a lend of you; using premium for a short period, give me a break. Take the car back and demand they fix it. Honda claims it will do 6.6 L/100 km, and while the published fuel consumption is for comparison purposes the real life result should be close to that number. Yours is way off the mark, something is wrong with it.
