Toyota Camry 2002 FAQs

Check out real-world situations relating to the Toyota Camry 2002 here, particularly what our experts have to say about them.

  • Gassing up camrys

TOYOTA, like all carmakers, won't recommend modifying their cars in any way and that includes converting them to LPG. They spent millions of dollars developing cars to set specifications and know nothing of the consequences of modifying them. So they always say not to modify. Probably the only problem you will face is the valve recession you mention. Talk to a respected specialist and ask their advice. The difficulty with cars like the Camry is the LPG conversion industry has little experience with them.

  • Toyota Camry 2002: When should I use overdrive?

WHEN you start your engine, the transmission is in the overdrive mode -- it will shift through all gears, including the overdrive fifth gear. If you press the overdrive button, you will notice the warning light on the dash is illuminated telling you that the overdrive is off. In this case the transmission will not engage fifth gear. If you press the button above 80km/h the transmission will shift down to fourth. The overdrive should be engaged for normal driving to get better fuel consumption, but you can disengage it when you want more passing performance, or to slow the car when you are approaching a town.

  • Reliable used 4-cylinder cars?

With a limited budget like yours I would suggest to go for a car with a good reliability record. While the Mercedes-Benz is a good car you are likely to be facing an expensive repair if anything should go wrong. Consider a Mitsubishi 380 or a Toyota Camry of around 2000-2003.
