Tesla Model 3 Long Range 2020 pricing and spec confirmed

Tesla Motors has expanded its all-electric Model 3 medium sedan range with the inclusion of the Long Range variant, which adds a second motor to the entry-level Standard Range Plus version and is priced at $85,000 before on-road costs.

The American EV specialist has also increased the price of its range-topping Performance version, which previously retailed at $85,000 and now checks in at $91,200, with a bump in specification to match.

The Model 3 Long Range increases driving range from 460km in the $66,000 Standard Range Plus to 620km, while the Performance is rated at 560km, with all versions tested on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).

The Long Range’s dual-motor, all-wheel-drive set-up provides a zero-to-100km/h sprint time of 4.6 seconds on the way to a 233km/h V-max, compared with 3.4s and 261km/h in the Performance.

Meanwhile, the Standard Range Plus takes 5.6s to hit the benchmark figure on the way to a 225km/h top speed.

The Long Range scores much of the Performance’s extended specification list, including a 14-speaker premium audio system, heated rear seats, LED foglights, and a year’s worth of Tesla’s Premium Connectivity package, which bundles live traffic information, online music and media streaming and increased frequency of over-the-air live updates.

Visually, the Long Range is similar to the Standard Range Plus, including its 18-inch aerodynamic wheels.

As for the Performance price increase, the top-spec model now bundles a range of features previously reserved for a $6200 option pack, including 20-inch wheels, upgraded brakes, a carbon-fibre boot spoiler, lowered suspension, aluminium pedals and a track driving mode.

Standard equipment across the range includes panoramic glass sunroof, 12-way power-adjustable and heated front seats, customisable driver profiles, centre console storage with four USB ports and two smartphone docks, plus auto-dimming, folding and heated exterior mirrors.

The optional ‘Full Self-driving Capability’ package has risen in cost from $7100 to $8500, while a white interior option is now available on the Performance for $1400.

As for colours, the no-cost option has changed from Solid Black to Pearl White Multi-Coat (previously $2100), while other choices include the aforementioned Solid Black (now $1050), Midnight Silver and Deep Blue metallic ($1400) and Red Multi-Coat ($2800).

A Tesla spokesperson said the changes were in line with the brand’s global strategy to sell the same three variants worldwide.

Meanwhile, the Model S and Model X ranges have been standardised to Long Range and Performance variants, all of which score more efficient motors to increase range and performance, while the Performance also comes standard with Ludicrous mode.
