Watch out, Tesla Model Y! New Chinese electric SUV lands in Australia with sharp price to take on Xpeng G6 and Aion V: 2025 Deepal S07 pricing in Australia revealed

New Chinese brand Deepal has arrived in Australia with sharp pricing on its first model — a direct rival to the Tesla Model Y.

The 2025 Deepal S07 comes in a single trim level priced at $53,900 before on-road costs and that includes 12 months of free public charging on the Evie network.

For reference, a Tesla Model Y RWD costs $55,900 and the XPeng G6 starts at $54,800 (both before on-road costs), while Aion's rival, the V, is yet to be priced for our market.

There's only one S07 trim level at launch which features a single rear-mounted electric motor producing peak power and torque figures of 160kW and 320Nm, respectively.

A generous 80kWh battery pack doesn't get the S07 particularly far, though, with its WLTP rating at 475km — a Model Y achieves 455km from a smaller circa-60kWh pack.

The free Evie charging should help the value equation. The Deepal S07 can take on electricity at 92kW DC for a 35 minute charge from 30 to 80 per cent. AC electricity is taken on at 11kW.

Inside, there are heated and power-adjustable front seats appointed in black synthetic leather, wood-look veneer trims, push-button door handles and a huge, pivoting 15.6-inch multimedia touchscreen that runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Deepal S07's cabin design follow's Tesla's lead, ditching driver instruments and instead display speed on the touchscreen.

There's a 14-speaker stereo with speakers in the driver's headrests for taking quieter phone calls, a panoramic sunroof and 64-colour ambient lighting.

Key safety includes 'Human and Pet Detection' that can tell when a person or creature is left inside the vehicle and alert the owner with flashing lights and honking horns. There's also a 'Smoking Mode' that cracks the windows and a 'Nap Mode' that reclines the seat and sets an alarm so you don't over-sleep.

The Deepal S07's boot is 445 litres and that's aided by a 125-litre storage cubby under the bonnet.

Australian buyers may get a little extra confidence knowing that Deepal is being imported by Inchcape, known for success with Subaru. Deepal effectively plugs the hole in Inchcape's portfolio left by Citroen's recent exit.

Deepal backs the S07 with a seven-year/160,000km warranty and will announced capped-price service plans in the future.

Deepal is setting up 'retail locations' at Trivett franchise dealers. The first four are split between Sydney and Melbourne but the S07 will be able to be seen in QLD, SA and WA locations by the first quarter of 2025.

The Deepal brand has a catalogue of models it can draw from in China, including a Prado-rivalling off-roader and more. Deepal is also Mazda's latest joint-venture partner in China and constructs the new EZ-6 for the Japanese marque.
