Holden Commodore 2010: Automatic transmission fault

Answered by CarsGuide 17 May 2013

There's no widespread issue with the transmission, but like everything they can have troubles. It's impossible to say if the new transmission will give you any trouble, consult your crystal ball for that one. Fitting an external cooler can help if the cause of the transmission failure was related to overheating. In theory the transmission was filled-for-life at the factory and doesn't need servicing, but auto transmission experts will tell you it's wise to have the transmission regularly serviced, possibly once a year, particularly if you are towing.

Holden Commodore 2010: rough on gas

Answered by CarsGuide 21 Dec 2012

As it's not a consistent problem you would have to think there's an issue such as a connection or a sensor that's faulty. The factory system used by Holden is an Impco one, designed and developed by Impco for Holden. I would bypass the Holden dealer and go to an accredited Impco dealer and have them check it for you.

Commodore with metal particles in oil

Answered by CarsGuide 26 Oct 2012

Change the oil before you drive it as metal particles can lead to severe engine damage. Talk to the dealer and demand it be fixed under the warranty.

Commodore oil consumption

Answered by CarsGuide 29 Sep 2012

The warranty covers you if the car has a problem, Holden is obliged to honour it and give you a car that is trouble free. Beyond that there is a requirement for any manufacturer, of any goods, to produce a product that is of commercial quality. If the oil consumption of your car doesn't improve you could claim it's not fit for the purpose for which you bought it. But I wouldn't rely on our consumer laws to get you a result.

Commodore Omega oil usage

Answered by CarsGuide 10 Aug 2012

It does sound as though it is using too much oil. Sit down with the dealer and work out with them how they will tackle it, and press them for a solution. Also check the oil level weekly so you don't inadvertently run out of oil.

Holden Commodore: Seat trim problems

Answered by CarsGuide 7 Jun 2011

Good to know if the plastic trim breaks on your Commodore. If it does, look deeper and have the dealer replace the foam as well as the plastic trim you can see. I’d say the real reason that they don’t change the foam is that it’s an expensive exercise, and nothing to do with the GFC.

Commodore dash

Answered by CarsGuide 10 Feb 2011

This is a hobbyhorse of mine, as I think the designers in this case have put form before function, and I agree with you the instruments are hard to read. Putting the low beam lights on makes it a little easier, but doesn't fix the problem. Having the digital speed readout on, as you have done, is about the only solution for you, but if like me you don't like digital speed readouts you're out of luck. I urge people to check things like this when they test drive a car before purchase, that's the time to identify issues you might have with a car later on.

Ask Smithy Xtra clutchless Commodore

Answered by CarsGuide 14 Sep 2010

As you say 20,000 km from a clutch, when driven normally, is not acceptable. You need to retrieve the parts and have them examined by an independent engineer with experience in clutches. Armed with his information you can approach Holden and ask for compensation for your expenses.

Ask Smithy Xtra Commodore oil test

Answered by CarsGuide 30 Aug 2010

I don’t remember the Commodore test, but I do recall the claims made by companies trying to sell us their products. I have to admit I’m a skeptic and don’t believe the claims. I would prefer to err of the side of caution and change the oil regularly instead of relying on something that in my mind really isn’t proven.
