Has anyone had an issue with the power steering on the 2012 Holden Equipe?
Some owners have, indeed noted power-steering problems in this model Commodore. That said, this is a very common model, so some problems are to be expected as they with most other makes and models.
The most common problem seems to be a squealing noise when the wheel is turned. That’s often due to low power-steering fluid level (check the dipstick at the top of the reservoir under the bonnet). If the level is low, you need to start looking for a leak as this is a sealed system and shouldn’t need topping up over time. Leaks can occur in the pump itself, the steering rack or the plumbing that joins them.
A vibration through the wheel or a fluttering sensation can often be caused by air trapped in the system. With the engine running and the car in Park, turn the wheel slowly from lock to lock a couple of times., That’s often enough to purge the air and return the steering to a nice smooth feel.
Some owners have reported an improvement in their power-steering by draining and flushing the system and adding new fluid.
Why is my 2012 Commodore V6 stalling when turning left around corners?
In the old days I might have said it was due to fuel surge, but that doesn’t happen with fuel injection. It could perhaps be a connection in the wiring that is separating when the car swings to the left. It needs investigation.
Holden Commodore: Cooling package for towing?
If you're towing on the flat and not overloading the transmission you might get away without upgrading to the cooling package, but if your short distances include hills you should upgrade it. If you don't you're putting the transmission at risk of overheating and being damaged.
Holden parts availability after factory closure
I wouldn't be concerned about it. No doubt parts makers will be under pressure to survive with Holden and Ford stopping local production, but there will be a stock of parts retained by Holden in the medium term at least, and other companies will step into the breach if the current parts suppliers do fall over. With so many Commodores made there will be an on-going demand for replacement parts that will have to be met.
Holden Commodore: Engine rattle
The cold-start rattle seems to be something that Holden V8 owners must accept as part and parcel of the engine.
Holden Commodore 2012: Servicing schedule
While oils are better now than they once were, so to are the demands placed on them. Regular oil changes are wise to keep your car ticking over at it should, don't hesitate to do the servicing.
Holden Commodore 2012: VE Equipe wheel alignment
Wheel alignment is clearly not covered by the warranty, so you won't get Holden to show any interest in your claim for new tyres. Remember that it was the dealer who did the servicing work on your car, not Holden itself, so if you think the dealer was negligent in not discovering that the wheel alignment was not correct you should pursue your case for tyres with them.
