Sitting at the head of the Golf wagon train, the Highline offers a choice of 1.4-litre (110kW/250Nm) turbo-petrol or 2.0-litre (110kW/340Nm) turbo-diesel power. A standard seven-speed 'DSG' dual-clutch auto transmission drives the front wheels only.
Priced at $37,990 drive-away (MSRP $35,990) for the 110TSI petrol version and $40,490 drive-away (MSRP $38,490) for the 110TDI diesel, the Highline features a lengthy standard equipment list including cruise control, seven airbags, driver-fatigue detection, a new 8.0-inch multimedia screen, AEB, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual zone climate control air, 'leather-appointed' trim, a leather-trimmed steering wheel, LED headlights and daytime running lights, a rear-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, auto headlights, parking sensors, electric driver's seat with memory function, keyless entry and start, interior ambient lighting, and a panoramic electric glass sunroof.
Close to 4.6 metres in length, the Golf wagon is around 30cm longer than the hatch, but only nudges up 15mm in the wheelbase, so passenger accommodation is virtually identical.
