Sedan with good storage space and suspension?

Answered by CarsGuide 18 Jan 2016

We test all cars in the real world, on the toughest corners and worst surfaces we can find, and I've been doing the job for nearly 40 years. Hyundai has focussed its suspension work on European-style handling, not a cushy American-style ride, but that's no different from many other brands. For your needs I would probably have steered you to a Nissan Pulsar, but also advised not to buy anything without a proper test drive on road you know.

Camry vs Veloster - first car?

Answered by CarsGuide 28 Aug 2015

Both cars are good ones, the Camry Atara is a more practical choice and would probably have a better resale when you want to sell it in the future, but the Veloster is a sportier car. The choice is really an emotional one and the 21-year-old wants the sporty choice. You won’t go wrong with either car.

Toyota Corolla or Toyota Camry: Which is better for towing?

Answered by CarsGuide 19 Dec 2014

First you need to know the total weight of the trailer when it's loaded with everything you want to take with you when you go camping. It could easily sneak up to close to the Corolla's limit of 950 kg. You have to think of safety when towing, and it doesn't matter that you will only tow short distances or do it twice per year. I would tend to go for the Camry, it has a higher towing rating, it is a heavier vehicle and therefore more stable, and I think safer for your needs.

Toyota Camry 2004: Peeling paint on spoiler

Answered by CarsGuide 21 Sep 2012

It's not unusual for the clear coat to peal off plastic parts like your spoiler. The technology for painting plastic parts wasn't as well developed back when your car was built as it is now. While it is frustrating the car is now eight years old, and I doubt that you will get anywhere with this issue. If you want to pursue it get a report from an independent paint specialist such as Graeme Cuthbert (0422 444 335) and consider lodging a claim through the courts.

Toyota Camry 2004: What coolant should I use?

Answered by CarsGuide 22 Mar 2011

There’s no problem about buying a generic brand of coolant off the shelf and filling the system, just make you mix it to the correct ratio. It is a good idea to replace coolant at times and it might well be worth doing that at this time of your wife’s car. Before doing anything, however, inspect the cooling system for leaks that might have caused your wife’s car to lose coolant.

Ask Smithy Xtra Dodgy wheel alignment

Answered by CarsGuide 21 Sep 2010

Don’t do it, get the wheel alignment done correctly. Whoever did the wheel alignment hasn’t adjusted the tie-rod ends correctly. You can remove the steering wheel, but unless it’s a full spline out it won’t line up anyway. When you replace the wheel you will find there will be a code showing a problem with the airbag and you will have to reset the code. That would be a problem.
