They are of a similar age, so there shouldn’t be much between them in terms of accumulated mileage. The SP25 is better equipped and sportier model, but I would still go for the Maxx being newer and a little cheaper.

In Mazda's defence the SP25 GT does have sports suspension which will transmit more noise, but we're hearing more complaints and hope that Mazda has addressed the noise issue when the Mazda3 is updated later this month.

I suspect that you are being conned. Could you hear this "groaning"? If not don't replace the brakes, but if you're not sure take the car somewhere else and have the brakes checked.
